Faith Of The Nine

One heck of a roller coaster ride at the speed of F-22 Raptor

The Third Yuga is slowly drawing to a close. Nam – the greatest Empire on Janani – is going to face some fierce winds of change. Seers foresee omens of death and destruction in the return of the Banished One – A God who will claim the ashes of this world as revenge. While out in the streets, rumours abound - of older forgotten powers stirring.

Caught in this maelstrom of a power struggle between Gods are three ordinary lives: General Fateh, the most celebrated soldier in Nam who starts to question his faith, Ishan – a gifted orphan who struggles to comprehend his destiny and Abhaya – a young monk in search of truths about this world. Their choices and actions will shape the destiny of this scarred world that becomes the playground for vindictive Gods.

In a world where Rakshasas arise out of left-over traces of Maaya and twilight forms the portal to countless worlds around us for Daityas and Yakshis to dance through, a God is only as powerful as those who believe.

And when Gods rise, faith of men will be tested...And broken.

Congratulations to Author Sachin Dev on his debut Novel and Truth be told , I received this book as a review copy and was readiy game 'cause of its jaw-dropping cover .
It'd been prophesied that , when the Sun will hide & spring will turn into the violet , one of the 10 banished god will come back to avenge himself & his lover leading to turning the existing world into the ashes . And the book launched with ' 123 Tithis to Reckoning ' where the Butcher-of-the-South , who claimed to came down from the hills of Kandhar , wiped the whole village named Anokhee on the southern borders of Namaakhal and hence triggering the chain of events that interleaved with the lives of General Fateh , Ishan and the Abhaya whose actions were bound to shape the destiny of the world .
Book stands out from similar work by Shatrujeet Nath and others by virtue of its superbly developed characters, accomplished prose and sheer bloody-mindedness. Fateh , who'd been portrayed as the commander of the fearsome First of the Cohort Batallion and detest politics , had been called into the capital to oversee a special task but found himself caught into the web of something that may had unbalanced his faith in the Gods . Then its Ishan , who'd been living in the chambers of the Inner council whose inhabitants weren't allowed to walk into the free world & felt as a prisoner living there , took the cover of the rain and slip out of the confines of the Seven . Ishan had been raised by his Nanny-ma after the death of his parents . She's well aware of the true natue & aspect behind the birth of Ishan into the mythic world . And finally the third main protagonist , Abhaya Samanna , a Kwah-seer who was supposed to spend his life's energies in solving the puzzle of the world and in pursuit of knowledge but destiny had wrote something more special and adventurous for him . Beside leading protagonist author had also bolted the side characters like Zohan , Mritunjay , Sanket , Nanny-ma , Ruksar in deatil .
I found the plot quite engrossing and complimentary to the plot is its characterization . Detailing a world where Rakshasas arise out of the left-over traces of Maya and Yakshis who wander in the ghost town at odd hours looking for living souls .

Favourite Moments :
# Tale of the forgiven epochs by Acharya is quite riveting one .
# Gale strom ripped when soldier tried to attack Abhaya
# Bajah's encounter with Ruksar
# Fathe's fight with a Yakshi & the shadows in Anokhee
# Awe-inspiring loyalty of Mrithunjay & Sanket for their leader .
# Description of the Enchanted gardens which protect 'emselves .
# Fateh's journey to Adbudha , Grakki's garden , and back to his own world

Situations :
#While reading I found some loopholes in the story when a stance end up with a chapter but the story of the protagonist continued with some very different context like there was no description of how Zohan , Zafar , Ishan and Abhaya left and seperated from Zohan's uncle's place where they had taken asylum when Imperial Guards are sniffing for them in the whole city .
# A map of the Nam Empire should had been there in the book to understand the geography of the place where the plot's setup .
So ' Faith of the Nine " , debut work of Author Sachin Dev, is a pacy and true blooded Fantasy with a hint of mythology at its core and is highly recommended for Mythology lovers .

" The end of the fear is where we begin harvesting the truth "

Title: King of Hearts

Goodreads Rating : 4/5

So I received this book as a review copy in exchange of an honest review ." King Of Hearts " is the second novel penned down by author and revolves around the protagonist Ayan who left his home a teenage & settled in the capital of the largest democracy , Delhi, to fulfill his dreams . It was on his birthday when he met Misha in a bar where she's filling her uncle's spot . With time they gelled well & become partners in crime . Ayan who wish to become an author was struggling to get his book published but as the legends said , ' Everything Happens for good & at very right time ' . After tons of hardship when things get juicy in his life , he turned out to be the heart beat of the nation , saviour of many .But the only person who stays with him , in his thick & thin , was Misha .
Author 'd given detail description of Misha & Ayan's friendship which is awe-inspiring in the time when people stays in life for some materialistic desires or ready to cheat on other for some trendy stuff .Hitesh, a literary agent , is embedded as a positive fellow of Ayan who helped him in settling in an alien town & handled Ayan's PR personally in absence of Misha .My favourite character in book is Misha's uncle who is portrayed as the coolest guy in plot . He raised Misha with his children and encouraged kids to go on dates and enjoy the life .
Now my Favourite Moment in the story are:
# Stance when Misha gave 50+ calls to ayan to command him not accept friend request of a particular friend .
# When Ayan fulfilled Misha's wish to see delhi from top of Qutumb Minar .
# When Misha came back .
Heart-wrenching Moment : Misha walks away from ayan's life .
Situation with Book :
# Some episodes in book seems to be embedded forcefully .
# Screwing up with Rahul's Porsche . I mean a person who owns Porsche surely have an electronic eye(Camera) over him with motion-sensing sensors but seems as if , author ignored above mentioned facts .
# Radio Jockey's Scene seems same as that from ' Lage Raho Munna Bhai ' movie .

In all , Kings of Hearts ' is a heart-melting story , left me teary eyed .

The Reapers Are The Angels

Well Written Zombie World !

Zombies have infested a fallen America. A young girl named Temple is on the run. Haunted by her past and pursued by a killer, Temple is surrounded by death and danger, hoping to be set free.

For twenty-five years, civilization has survived in meager enclaves, guarded against a plague of the dead. Temple wanders this blighted landscape, keeping to herself - and keeping her demons inside. She can't remember a time before the zombies, but she does remember an old man who took her in and the younger brother she cared for until the tragedy that set her on a personal journey toward redemption. Moving back and forth between the insulated remnants of society and the brutal frontier beyond, Temple must decide where ultimately to make a home and find the salvation she seeks.

Title: The Reapers are the Angels
Author: Alden Bell
Genre: Ficton
Publishers: Pan Macmillan India
Price: INR. 450
Goodreads Rating : 4/5

So this is my first Post-Apocalyptic-World read . Author had penned down a simple story which revolves around the protagonist Temple who left the island to discover far new lands . On the way she stumble into different kind of humans and meatskins aka Slugs(Zombies ) . After reaching mainland , Abraham misbehaves with her and end up losing his life . With Ruby's help , she makes out of the area but got tailed by Moss Todd , Abraham's brother , who stay concrete to kill her any how .While running away she came across Maury , usually called Dummy in the plot & decided to get him back to his family to earn some good points .
Temple is a difficult character to relate to. She's tough and hard. She handles herself in a way I'd like to think I would do when zombies take over the planet. She kills with precision, both zombie and human when necessary. But she's broken. "Am I evil? " is what she wants to know and shed her shame. The world that she lives in is a terrible place . She knows nothing else. Responsibility and honor guide her through a world with no rules. Moss Todd is portrayed as an enemy who sticked to his word and commands honour even during futile time .

The Reapers are The Angels is a mature book, the violence and gore are intense and the lessons in it are hard learned. It's the moral though; that I think takes an adult mind to truly grasp. Concepts of sacrifice, family, and morality are rarely conveyed as profoundly as they are in Reapers. Bell has managed to give us the perfect Anti-Heroine in a world without heroes in a time without hope. Temple takes us on a journey through the worst parts of human nature only to show us that in the end, all that matters is what you hold inside of you.

" Sometimes when there's no light to see by , that's when everything turns clear & sharp "

Have you ever felt that there should be a book that bridges the gap between the loyal, traditional approach to the Ramayana and the twisted, modern but exciting approach to the epic?
If yes, your search ends here. ‘Ramayana – The Game of Life’ is a series that attempts to present an authentic rendition of the Ramayana in an absolutely modern and riveting manner. This book promises to enlighten the loyalists and entertain the modernists. Written in an edu-taining manner, the books guarantee satisfaction; a book series that will be a life-time companion, effectively interspersing the Ramayana story with thought provoking contemporary life lessons. As you flip the pages of these books, one thought is sure to pass your mind; never has the Ramayana been so life applicable!
If you haven’t read the first two books in the series, it doesn’t matter. When you bite into a cake, it hardly matters where you begin. But in order to help the readers get familiar with the story, there is a summary of both the books. However, after reading this book if you do feel that you have gained much, then make sure you grab the first two books, because you have then missed so much more.
In the last few years, I have presented a series of seminars based on Ramayana – ‘The Game of Life, where I expand on the innumerable life lessons presented in the books with a lot of practical examples and anecdotes. These seminars have made the book even more user-friendly and relevant to the thousands who have heard them. These seminars are freely available on YouTube.
Stolen Hope takes ‘Ramayana – The Game of Life’ series to another level. Action-packed from page one, it promises to be a suspense thriller in its own unique way. The background stories in the book will make you wonder if you know the Ramayana at all. As is the trend in the last two books, there is no single hero in this book also. Every person is a hero in his or her own way since they have the power to arrest the attention of the reader in different ways, at different levels and during different situations. Isn’t that how life is?
The book begins and ends with Rama and Lakshmana’s clash with two humongous demons Viradha and Kabandha that defy all levels of imaginations. Hidden within their gigantic size are innocent stories that change our paradigm of judging irrational people around us. As Rama, Sita and Lakshmana walk through the jungles of Dandakaranya, they meet fascinating sages fearfully engaged in austerities. Their deformed bodies ripped apart by terrorist attacks of the rakshasas provoke Rama to take a solemn vow to rid the forest of the rakshasa menace. The most fascinating of these sages is Agastya who everyone in Dandaka forest considered a super-sage. Being a perfect blend of vigor, humor, courage, intelligence, innovation and most interestingly culinary expertise, Agastya’s guest appearance in this book is indeed a highpoint.
The thirteen years of exile proved to be thirteen years of exclusive privacy for Sita with Rama. Their love grows to a whole new dimension until something happens. It begins as a humorous tug of war but ends up in a bloody gruel. The brothers realize that rakshasas don’t take humor lightly. Surpanakha’s entry into their life was a disaster. Within a matter of few hours Rama had annihilated 14,000 soldiers of Surpanakha’s brothers Khara and Dhushana. With that one heroic act, Rama gives a fitting reply to a challenge that Sita had posed 13 years back and Sita gets her chance to undo a mistake that she had been repenting for long.
While Rama and Sita are immersed in each other, Ravana begins to mourn the death of his trusted allies who had ably protected the rakshasa outpost in Janasthana. Instigated by his now deformed sister seething with revenge, Ravana decides to kidnap Sita. The 18 curses on Ravana’s head begin to haunt him as he muses over his decision. This little known aspect of Ravana’s life may come as a total surprise to an uninformed reader, redefining the image of the Lankeshwara. The episode of the abduction of Sita highlights the uncommon sacrifice of two martyrs; Maricha who died proving his loyalty to Ravana and Jatayu who died while trying to protect the dignity of a woman.
The kidnapping of Sita projects Lakshmana in a totally different light. His maturity in dealing with complicated situations with extreme delicacy leaves one awestruck. Clearly Lakshmana ends up winning many hearts. Giving hope and encouragement to his brother, he escorts him southwards as indicated by the weeping animals of the forest. From the beginning of this book, Rama has been nudged by different forces to slowly edge towards the southern direction, the strong hold of the rakshasas clan. The final hint comes through the simplicity of Sabari’s love.
The book ends at a cliffhanger when Rama and Lakshmana come across someone who appears to be someone else…

* Possibly we don't have a book but we all often hold a short story  *

Usually Novels appeal me but after reading this book I'm always going to be game with Short stories .The suspense, which is created while going through the storyline does not fade away due to the sheer length of the text or mere exaggeration of a particular set of events  as might be the case with a novel !
Every short story is designed perfectly with an altogether different plot and the manner in which the authors portrays their stories with a unique style of delivering which makes the reader start considering himself an integral part of the theme while he is going through the sequence and this engagement further intensifies the random thoughts and emotions linked with different characters of the story to the extent that you start associating yourself with them.  Sometimes the endings are in a way mocking coupled with light humour arousing the “Aahaa !” expression from the reader.
"Dream Castle " is a spell bounding collection of short stories . 20 stories from 20 different authors gives an insight of pain , humor , fun and of all emotions .Book with " The Guardian Angels " in which a the protagonist is suffering from an  emotion turmoil but then an unknown fellow change her life patching smile on her face .Some of the stories are really heart-aching like Anecdote ,The Knack of Present while collection also hold one of the fun tale by name of " The New Beginning " in which Protagonist elevates 'cause of his dream to meet Deepika Padukone .Isha Sharma's " Dream it , Destiny will Follow " counts among those lil stories which asuures the reader to dream , act and finally let non-belivers say ' Wow, Finally you'd done it "
There are many other heart warming, humorous and mind boggling stories in the book, which would surely rejuvenate you and would be a welcoming break from daily monotonous chores. So this book is recommended to all short story book lovers out there

Read an Excerpt:

Lake Tranquil was vast.  So much so that Patience couldn’t see where it ended or began.  Despite its size, it was deserted.  She was the only human in sight and she loved the thought of being so alone, immersed in the beauty of nature.  An occasional bird flitted in and out of the trees, or swooped down to land at the water’s edge.  In the distance, a rabbit ran through the trees, its tail bobbed, flashing white as it ran for cover.
Trees lined craggy mountains that surrounded the lake.  They were thick, green and tall, and reached to the shoreline; only a small wavering line of pebble-covered beach sat between the shimmering waters and the forest.

It was heavenly.

It wasn’t the first time Patience had been to Lake Tranquil.  Once, as a child, she had visited it with her mother and enjoyed a week of blissful freedom away from the chaos of life.  Now here, fleeting memories flooded back.  Swimming in the lake as her mother sat on the deck and read.  Running through the trees playing hide and seek, and sitting on the shore as the sun set.  Watching the stars appear overhead as her mother cooked fish over a smoky fire.  It was a time in her life that stuck in her mind, when her mother had been truly happy and content.

It was why Patience was here.

For her mother. To try to be closer to her, to try to understand her.To try to find some peace.
